How much does a Brazilian wax cost at Bare Skin Waxing?
A Brazilian wax starts at $65 and takes about 30 minutes. First-time clients get 20% off. We also offer bikini wax from $45 and our Barely There extended bikini wax from $55. There’s no hidden upcharge for coarse or thick hair — the price is the price. You can find our pricing for women and men on our website.
Is Bare Skin Waxing good for first-timers?
We’ve waxed thousands of first-timers over the years and it’s honestly one of our favorite things to do. Your esthetician will explain everything before touching the wax, let you set the pace, and check in with you throughout. We use a hard wax specifically chosen for sensitive skin — it adheres to the hair, not the skin, which is why our clients consistently say it hurt less than they expected. Over 700 five-star reviews across Google and Yelp, and a huge number of those are from first-timers.
What type of wax does Bare Skin use?
We use a professional-grade hard wax for all sensitive areas — Brazilian, bikini, underarms, and face. Hard wax shrink-wraps around the hair as it cools and lifts it from the root without bonding to live skin cells, which is why it’s dramatically less painful than the strip wax you’d get at a chain. For larger body areas like legs, back, and arms, we use a high-quality soft strip wax that works faster and gives a clean pull on longer, finer hair. Our estheticians choose the wax based on the area, your skin type, and your hair texture — not a one-size-fits-all approach.
What is the difference between a bikini wax and a Brazilian wax?
A bikini wax ($45) cleans up the hair along your bikini line — think anything that would show outside a swimsuit. A Brazilian ($65) removes everything from front to back, with an optional landing strip or small triangle if you prefer. Our Barely There option ($55) splits the difference — full bikini line plus the backside, but leaves some hair in front. If you’re not sure which one you want, your esthetician can help you decide when you come in. Most first-timers start with Barely There or Brazilian and never go back to bikini-only.
Does Bare Skin Waxing offer men’s waxing?
Yes, and we’ve been doing it since we opened. Men’s waxing is a bigger part of our business than most people expect. We offer chest, back, back and shoulders, arms, legs, underarms, eyebrows, nose, and ear waxing. The techniques are slightly different for male skin and hair — men tend to have denser hair and more sensitive skin post-wax — and our estheticians are trained for both. Visit our men’s waxing page for a complete list of services and prices.
How should I prepare for a waxing appointment?
Let your hair grow to at least a quarter inch — roughly the length of a grain of rice, or about two to three weeks after your last shave. Longer is fine; we can trim it. For 24 hours before your appointment, skip exfoliating, retinol, AHAs, and heavy sun exposure. If you’re concerned about pain, you can take an ibuprofen 30 minutes beforehand, but most of our clients find the anticipation is worse than the actual wax. The one thing that actually makes the biggest difference? Staying on a regular wax schedule so the hair comes in thinner each time. We recommend every 4-6 weeks for the best results.
How often should I get waxed?
Every four to six weeks for most areas. Here’s why that timing matters: hair grows in three cycles, and waxing only removes hair in the active growth phase. When you stay consistent at four to six weeks, you start catching more hair in the same cycle, which means each appointment removes more hair, hurts less, and goes faster. Clients who’ve been on a regular schedule for six months or more often tell us their Brazilian takes 15 minutes and barely hurts.
What are Bare Skin Waxing’s hours?
Monday 10am–3pm, Tuesday 10am–6pm, Wednesday 10am–8pm, Thursday 10am–9pm, Friday 10am–9pm, Saturday 10am–6pm, Sunday 12pm–7pm. We keep late hours Thursday and Friday because that’s when most of our clients want to come in before the weekend. Walk-ins are welcome when we have availability, but we recommend booking online to guarantee your preferred time and esthetician.
How do I book an appointment?
Book online anytime — day or night. It takes about two minutes. Pick your service, your preferred esthetician, and your time slot, and you’re confirmed instantly. No phone tag, no waiting for a callback. First-time clients automatically get 20% off when booking through our website. We do recommend booking in advance, especially for Saturdays and Sundays — our weekends fill up fast and some of our most popular estheticians are booked out a week or more. Thursday and Friday evenings go quickly too. If you’re flexible on timing, midweek appointments are the easiest to get. You can also call us at (202) 552-1650 if you’re not sure what service to book — we’re happy to walk you through it.
What areas does Bare Skin Waxing serve?
We’re located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, and most of our clients come from within a 20-minute drive. We regularly see clients from Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax, Annandale, Springfield, Crystal City, and across the Potomac from Washington DC, Georgetown, and Capitol Hill. We even have clients who make the drive from Maryland — Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park — because they prefer our boutique approach over the chains closer to home. Old Town itself is worth the trip — a lot of our clients grab dinner on King Street or walk the waterfront after their appointment.
What makes Bare Skin different from other waxing salons?
We only do two things: waxing and skin care. We’re not a nail salon that also waxes, or a hair salon with a wax room in the back. Every hour of our day is spent on waxing and skin health, which means our estheticians develop a level of speed, precision, and technique that generalist salons can’t match. Our team is trained in both hard wax and soft wax techniques, and they know how to adjust their approach based on your skin type, hair texture, and sensitivity. That singular focus is why we’ve maintained a 4.8 star average across over 700 reviews — and why clients drive from Arlington, DC, Fairfax, and even Maryland past dozens of other options to come here.
