Your Wedding-Day Look, Head to Toe: The Beauty Checklist Half of Brides Forget

You’ve pictured this day for months: walking in steady, glowing, completely yourself. You have a hair trial booked, maybe two. You know your makeup artist’s name. The dress fits.

That’s the visible half of getting ready, and it’s the half that gets planned first because it’s the half you can see in a mirror. The other half, smooth skin, clean brows, lashes that hold up in every photo, matters just as much to feeling like your best self on the one day you don’t get to redo.

Give your skin a runway

This is the one part of wedding prep you can’t cram. Hair has to reach a certain length to wax cleanly, and it comes in finer and more evenly after a few rounds, so the result genuinely improves with time in a way a hair trial doesn’t.

Book your first appointment around the time you’re booking your other vendors, not the month before. Everything below assumes you’ve given yourself that runway. If you haven’t, start where you are. It still works, you just get fewer rounds.

Step one

Start with the whole picture

Hair and makeup get planned first, because they’re the parts you can see in a mirror. The rest of it, the brows your makeup sits on, your legs under a shorter dress, everything a photograph never covers, tends to get remembered late.

Most brides come to us for the Brazilian and add from there. It’s worth looking at all three before you book, because they don’t share a schedule.

  • A shaped brow framing the whole face

Your face, in every photographBrows and lash lift

Your makeup artist builds on what’s already there. A shaped brow gives her a clean line to work with, and a lash lift holds through a long day and several hundred photographs with nothing to reapply and nothing to lose.

  • Client receiving a full leg waxing treatment

The dress, and wherever you go afterLegs

A shorter dress, a first dance, a beach four days later. Legs are the easiest thing to leave off the list and the hardest to sort out on the morning of.

    Final visit 2-3 days before

  • A bride’s hand resting on her partner’s, both wedding rings visible, on ivory linen in window light

    Nothing gets closer than thisBrazilian

This is the one that isn’t for the photographs, the guests, or the schedule. It’s for the first night of the rest of it, when it’s finally just the two of you.

It’s also the most personal thing on the list and the one with the least room to improvise.

    Final visit 2-3 days before

Step two

Get your skin ready

These hold whenever your appointment lands.

Before you come in

  • Let hair grow in

Stop shaving 2 weeks before your first appointment. Quarter inch, about the size of a grain of rice.

  • Exfoliate 24-48 hours before

    Not the day of.

  • Pause retinol and strong actives 48 hours before

Same for chemical exfoliants on the area being waxed.

  • Stay out of direct sun 24 hours before
  • Wax before you self-tan, never after

Leave 24-48 hours between the two either way.

The 48 hours after

  • Skip tight clothing, hot baths and heavy sweat for the first 24 hours
  • Wait 24-48 hours before swimming, hot tubs, or saunas

Step three

Your wedding week

  • 1Earlier in the weekBook midweek, ideally the week before

Tuesday or Wednesday is both easier to get and easier to actually enjoy. Long Saturday slots are the hardest thing in the book to find, especially if you’re booking more than one service.

  • 2Your appointmentThe Brazilian, and legs if you’re having them

A Brazilian wax in Old Town Alexandria. Brows and a lash lift are better done 1-2 weeks earlier, though we can add them to this visit if that is easier for you. Give it the full hour, don’t sandwich it.

  • 3The days afterNothing new

No new products, no extra sun, moisturize as usual.

  • 4The day beforeNothing at all

Whatever you did earlier in the week is already settled.

Step four

Marrying in Alexandria or DC

Same plan, but our seasons change the timing more than you’d expect.

Spring · Mar-MayBook your sequence in January

Cherry blossom season brings the crowds, and this is the busiest wedding stretch in the DC area. By the time most brides start thinking about booking, the Saturdays in their wedding month are already gone. Coming back to waxing after a winter of covered legs? Give yourself one extra appointment up front.

Summer · Jun-AugOutdoor, waterfront, humid

Old Town weddings this time of year are largely outdoor, waterfront ceremonies, courtyards, garden receptions, and a DC summer brings real humidity with them. That’s why we lean toward 3 days over 2 on the Brazilian buffer.

Autumn · Sep-NovThe best conditions, and everyone knows it

Mild, dry, comfortable, and Old Town’s outdoor season runs later than most of the country. The catch: autumn is our second-busiest season locally, so the calendar fills just as fast as spring’s.

Winter · Dec-FebThe DC-to-Caribbean pattern

A lot of couples skip a Washington winter and marry somewhere warm. The Brazilian buffer still counts from the ceremony, not the flight, since brows and lash lift already last weeks. Marrying here in town? Watch dryness instead, start moisturizing a few weeks ahead.

We help brides feel like the best version of themselves for this exact day, every week. We’d love to help you get ready for yours.
